Time Saving Holiday Cooking Tips
The holiday season will soon be upon us, which means you will soon be
spending more time with family and friends. While entertaining them you will
probably want to have some baked goods on hand for your family like holiday
cookies and cakes. While time is valuable, I have some tips that will make the
process easier for you and increase your time for other activities.
Preparation is the key to getting ready and cutting down your time. A few
days before you plan to do your baking, you can measure out all of your dry
ingredients. Once you have measured these ingredients like flour, baking powder
and salt, you can put the entire mixture into a plastic bag. Do not forget to
write down the name of the cookie or cake mixture on the outside of the bag,
such as chocolate chip or sugar cookies. Remember, we are trying to cut down
time not add confusion, so this is a good habit to get into.
Let me mention one other thing. As you noticed, I have left out sugar from
the dry ingredients. I did this on purpose, as most recipes call for you to add
the sugar to the butter when you start making the cookies. So you can measure
out the sugar beforehand but you should keep it in a separate package and mark
the cookie or cake name you have measured the sugar out for. On the day you are
ready to bake the cookies or cake. You can cut down on your mixing time if you
take your refrigerated products out ahead of time. Letting the butter, eggs and
cream cheese get to room temperature makes for easier blending and less time
fighting with the ingredients. It will also help you by giving you a better and
more even blend.
I hope this helps you prepare faster and get your cooking done quicker so you
have more time for the important things – Spending time with family and friends.
Have a happy holiday season!
